Summing the totals of calculated fields in a SharePoint List

In my recent post on creating a swimming carnival records system with SharePoint, I briefly talked about summing calculated fields for a SharePoint list. I searched high and low on the net for this topic, and really only found one reference to this. Thanks Laura. Unfortunately Laura’s video was for using sharepoint designer 2007. I therefore thought that this post could be justified in its own right.

In SharePoint Designer 2010, summing calculated fields is really easy.

On the Visual Data Web Part in SharePoint designer, there is a little drop down box (see picture), Click on Fields > Choose the field you wish to sum or total > once you have done this the Check Box ‘show field totals’ appear, and you can choose ‘Sum’.
