Building a Parent Teacher Interview System using ECT – PART 2 SECURITY

How to build a simple parent teacher interview system for sharepoint using
only external content types –

PART 2 – SETTING SECURITY FOR YOUR PARENT TEACHER DB.

How you set up your External Content Type depends firstly on whether you
have installed your sharepoint server and your SQL server on the same box or on
a separate box. I have two separate virtual servers for sharepoint and
therefore I am presented with a ‘double hop authentication’ problem. If you
have installed your SQL and SharePoint on separate servers, there are two steps
that need to be completed to overcome the ‘Double Hop Authentication’ problem:
You need to complete only the first step of this blog, if you do not have the
double hop authentication problem.

  1. Set up a Service
Account in Active Directory. This service account will be the means by
which all of your users will access the SQL data. Fabian Williams has a
great blog on this. I have included Ancillary Staff, Teachers and Students
    in this service account.

Set the service account permissions to the Parent Teacher Interview Database
on your SQL Server. Do this by clicking on the Main security folder on SQL
server, add the service account to this security folder, and then set the
permissions.

The next blog sets up Secure Store Services and BCS in sharepoint
